Shortly after graduating SAE, I landed a 6-month internship with Atlanta’s own commercial recording studio Patchwerk. My title was staff assistant. Details of my daily responsibilities included: assisting head engineers during sessions, prepping control rooms (mics, stands, keyboards, external equipment), maintaining organization of studio (monitored inventory stock, cleaned & sanitized all areas of studio, food runs), recorded local artists, and providing “rough mixes” for references. Additional responsibilities included: editing vocals on pre-mixes for staffed engineers, observing and “sitting in” on active recording sessions for educational purposes.

Sessions observed include artists such as: Zaytoven, Bangladesh, Lil Boosie, Waka Flocka, Love & Hip Hop ATL, YFN Lucci, and a plethora of local artists.

Skills gained while at Patchwerk: proper studio etiquette, increased knowledge of signal flow, outboard gear, thorough patching, how to properly track vocals, and signal to noise ratio.

Programs and gear used: SSL J9096 Console, SSL duality console, Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton

Plugins used: Auto-Tune, VocAlign, Soundtoys v5 bundle, Focusrite, IK Multimedia AmpliTube 4, Native Instruments Komplete 12 Ultimate

Major projects mixed: 2 Jingles for local personal injury lawyer companies, Tracked audio to hip hop producer Bangladesh for promotional use

With my creative background, coupled with my new found knowledge on the technical side I was inspired to create jingles for the local personal injury company commercials I would always hear on the radio while driving. These 2 jingles you hear were composed, arranged, sang, and engineered by myself. I completed these jingles through the use of Patchwerk recording equipment during my internship there. Creating jingles has helped me learn how to arrange shorter musical compositions, and overall enhance my creativity.

Chosen as one of SAE’s Atlanta promotional models for all social media platforms.
While enrolled I learned things such as: stage setups for concerts and events, signal processing, basic signal flow, ADR effects, foley, patching, soldering, how to properly edit vocals, sequencing, composition arrangement, automation, and also how to build a business as an entrepreneur.

Short snippet of the Foley process used on the original movie “Fast & Furious” for a school project.  I chose this movie because of all of the action, and car scenes; giving me limitless opportunities to “dub” voices and manipulate car sound effects appropriately. Methods used for completion were “spotting”, vocal editing, arrangement, and added ADR effects.
